Winner of the Name That Abstract #10 and new Poetry Challenge

This time, for the Name That Abstract #10, there were 16 submitted names.  Two of them tied for the top, which means that the new poetry challenge will be your choice of a poem titled either Garden of Eden, name submitted by Bird, or Van Gogh Sneeze, name submitted by Norm.  Awesome names, among many awesome ones submitted!  Thanks to all who played along!

The rules for the poetry challenge are to submit your poems in the comments below.  Voting is done by clicking on the thumbs up above your favorite(s).  You may enter as many poems as you’d like, but please enter each one in a separate comment for voting purposes.  You will have until Saturday at noon U.S. Central time to submit your poems, and at that time entries will be closed for voting only.  The new winner will be announced next Wednesday at noon.

I know that things were slightly off on the days this last week…sorry about that.  Had to alter them for some things going on in my world.  I hope to see lots of poems submitted!  You have 2 names to choose from…or write a poem with each title if you prefer! 🙂

Garden of Eden (Van Gogh’s Sneeze)
by Anne Sikes

I usually have a poem to add myself at this time too, but because I’m not feeling well, I haven’t written any.  Will try to come back and add one later on though. 🙂

(Editing) It’s taken me awhile, but I’m back to add a poem of my own to this now. 🙂  It’s Wednesday, 8/8, and just a few hours away from announcing the winners of this week’s challenges.  See you then!

Van Gogh Sneeze

I wonder what happened when Vincent Van Gogh

Was forced to give way to a sneeze…oh no!

Perhaps beautiful colors, so bright and so bold

Sprayed forth from the depths of a horrid head cold

 ~~~
An artist must be that, whatever may come
Or so I suppose, it has been true for some
If ever an artist, his art could just breathe
Van Gogh would be one, I most surely believe.
About Anne Sikes
    Van Gogh Sneeze
    When Van Gogh’s sneeze upon the art world burst,
    it was as if the doors to Castle Hearst
    swung open wide to us. His “Starry Night”
    became for me a way to fight the blight
    of epilepsy. Yes, that darkened town
    reminded me of seizured brain. When down,
    I cannot see the sun or moon or star.
    They, nonetheless, shine on me from afar.
  2. Maggie says:
    Anne, I see a typo. How can I fix it? It’s in the fourth line., the last word. It should be spelled “blight.”
  3. Maggie says:
    Oh no, I see another OOPS, Anne. The title should be “Van Gogh Sneeze,” not “Van Gogh’s Sneeze.” Could you please remove the ‘s from the title? The first line should remain as is.
    And maybe there’s a way I could do this myself so I don’t have to bother you with my errors?
  4. Garden of Eden
    What is this place of beauty supreme?
    How crafty was the creator to bring to life a barren landscape
    to breathe upon the trees and watch them grow up from the earth
    to sprinkle color onto each flower and see them take over the ground
    Oh Eden the first place God did walk with man you home of the forbidden fruit
    where the evil of sin first took root
    I would have loved to see you at first glance when your beauty lay untouched by man’s hand
    On the Eve of Eden shadows of darkness did fall, but amazing to know
    The blazing light of the Son overcame them all!
    van Gogh Sneeze
    van Gogh, Gauguin
    Gauguin, van Gogh
    In the south they painted don’t you know.
    Gauguin, van Gogh
    van Gogh, Gauguin
    It was Vincent’s Arles studio plan.
    Paint and easels
    Easels and paint
    At first the project seemed so quaint.
    Easels and paint
    Paint and easels
    Good intentions sometimes hide evils
    Art and disease
    Disease and art
    Can drive the best of friends apart.
    Disease and art
    Art and disease
    Shaving is dangerous when you sneeze.
  6. GARDEN OF EDEN
    A place, a home God gave to them
    Everything they’d ever need
    Beauty beyond the richest gem
    God, gave to them a lifelong deed.
    To live, and love this garden delight
    And to live with ne’er a need
    With never concern or ever fright.
    One day however, Satan came
    And whispered in Eve’s ear
    He mentioned their God’s name
    As though He was not near.
    Eve listened as the devil did speak
    Not listening to her heart
    For if she had but thought to seek
    They would not have had to part.
    For Adam and Eve did not obey
    The God who gave them all
    The Garden of Eden, that dreadful day
    Was the beginning of man’s dark fall.
      Lovely Diane…just to let you know that I’m printing this out and add it to my “Keepsakes” book. I collect quotes, poems, jokes…things I want my kids to read when I’m gone. I include little personal notes throughout. But this one has to go into my little collection. Brava!
      • Thank You Sandy for the lovely compliment…Diane
        • lbtk says:
          Nice to be back among my fellow writers of Life. Sandy
          • Anne Sikes says:
            Hope things are well with you and yours, and that you’ll be contributing to the next challenges too! 20 Lines a Day has some great ones all the time as well. I need to create some more abstracts for the next couple of challenges on here too. I should get that done tonight or tomorrow.
            • lbtk says:
              Since I have 6 weeks of highly restrictive recuperation after knee surgery last Monday, I will have lots of time to participate in the Abstract Naming and poetry. I’m going to sign up for 20 Lines a Day, too.
            • Anne Sikes says:
              I didn’t realize about your knee surgery. Hope your recuperation goes smoothly, and that you’re able to find a way to enjoy yourself in the meantime as much as possible under those circumstances! I’m SO glad you’re signing up for 20 lines! It’s a great community of people, and growing by leaps and bounds too! You’ll love it, and everyone will love your contributions, as I do.
            • lbtk says:
              I actually spent the first part of my summer doing some work for our church, my children’s choir, and other projects that were for God’s kingdom. Then I had knee surgery. Results were not as good as expected, so I am confined to couch, bed, crutches only to get to bathroom, and no weight on the knee for 6 weeks. I was expecting 5 days rest. So I’ll be using the time to work on writing projects. Sandy
            • Anne Sikes says:
              Oh wow…that will be challenging I know, staying off your feet for that long. God must need you to do some writing though. ♥
            • lbtk says:
              My thoughts exactly!
    • Imelda says:
      lovely poem, Diane. 🙂
  7. Maggie says:
    Garden of Eden
    A place of peace, perfection, awe…
    until, that is, the serpent saw
    his chance. An apple, simple fruit,
    was offered and accepted, root
    so deep mankind forever changed,
    God’s plan then sadly rearranged.
